A heritage conservation project on one of Melbourne's earliest Singaporean 'kit' homes, protecting the original cottage while adding modern amenity for the owners. A glazed, lightweight atrium links the original cottage to a new structure that sits almost entirely behind it, preserving its street presence, footprint and integrity.
The glass and metal addition contrasts with and reflects the cottage's textured timber weatherboards. The project won the John George Knight Award from the Victorian Chapter of the RAIA (2009) and the Port Phillip Design & Development Award for Best Heritage.
