The house sits on a corner site that slopes toward the rear, with wide views across the Barwon River valley from the street frontage. Rather than placing private open space at the back, the north-east corner was opened to the view and the built forms arranged along the rear edge; the raised position gives a private garden terrace with direct access to the views. "The house form is a poetic commentary on modern architecture."
Stacked, box-like volumes are each clad in different but complementary materials; at ground level internal courtyards separate the boxes so every living space looks onto a courtyard or private garden. Inside, natural bluestone floors and detailed timber joinery add warmth.
